Language qualifications

At OIS, children really do learn languages and they get certified for it. At the end of their time here, every student leaves with tangible internationally recognised qualifications: certificates recognised throughout Europe, which will serve them well in further study, at work and in everyday life.

Students prepare for qualifications in two languages: English through the Cambridge English Qualifications and German through the certifications of the Goethe-Institut. Both Preparation is fully integrated into the curriculum and carefully planned by our teaching team over the years.

Cambridge English Qualifications

Cambridge English Qualifications are the University of Cambridge’s internationally recognised English language certifications. Designed for different ages and proficiency levels, and aligned with the CEFR (Common European Framework of Reference for Languages), they provide families and students with a clear picture of their language progress.

Preparation for Cambridge English Qualifications begins in Year 2 of Primary School and is built into the school timetable.

A1 Movers – end of Year 4
Flyers /A2 Key For Schools – end of Year 5
B1 Preliminary For Schools – end of Year 2 of Middle School

B2 First for Schools – end of Year 3 of Middle School

Goethe-Institut Certifications

German is introduced as early as Year 3 of Primary School, taught alongside Italian and English. In Middle School, it becomes a subject in its own right: three hours a week throughout Middle School, leading to the Goethe-Institut A1 qualifications , recognised throughout Europe.

The Goethe-Institut is Germany’s cultural institution, active worldwide. Its certificates confirm the language skills achieved and are recognised by universities, employers and European institutions.

As the second most widely spoken native language in Europe, German opens up a wealth of opportunities for further study, international careers and cross-cultural communication.
